Our Work

British Red Cross

Mother with child

The British Red Cross is one of the world’s leading humanitarian organisations, helping people in crisis both in the UK and abroad.

The British Red Cross helps vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees access essential services and adjust to life in a new country.

We are the largest service provider for refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Globally, the Red Cross network has a long and proud history of working with refugees across the world.

We provide emergency food, clothes and other essentials to those facing destitution. We help people adjust to life in their new area and we provide family reunion services.

Our volunteers and staff give essential emotional and practical support to people like Ramelle, Ayman and over 13,000 other asylum seekers and refugees each year.

You can find us in 60 towns and cities in the UK.

We help vulnerable people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are.

Teaching Resources

Leading artists have teamed up with the British Red Cross to create a new album based on the real-life stories of refugees and asylum seekers. To create The Long Road album, artists paired up with people who had been forced to flee their home and seek safety in the UK.

Spoken word poet Scroobius Pip, Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant, Kindness and many others have contributed to the record.

Pick and choose from transcripts of three songs featured on The Long Road album to help young people aged 14-19 engage with refugee stories. A set of critical questions open up a space for conversation, discussion and debate and help build young peoples’ understanding of the humanitarian impact of the current refugee crisis.
